Chimi RD Constructions Private Limited and Shivam, an Indian contractor under Joint venture project was awarded the works in May 2019. The 3.359km road will be constructed along the Phuentsholing Township Development Project’s site and Phuentsholing Thromde’s boundary from roundabout at Youth Development Fund building till Chamkuna.
The entire stretch of road will be constructed using embankment walls at both the sides filled with sediments of approximately at three meters high which is why it will take more than two years to complete. There will be crash barriers along both sides of the road for the safety. It will require around 0.3mn m3 of materials to fill up to elevate the road. There will be four multi-cellular culvert bridges along the road, one each of 10 and 20 meters high and two 30 meters high bridges. Also there will be eight culverts along the stretch. “Since the road will be built on embankment walls and bridges and culverts are to be constructed, it will take longer time,” he said.
The two lane highway once complete will ease the traveling nightmares for the travellers to Samtse. While the completed highway from the Amochhu Bridge is complete, the road from Chamkuna till the bridge is yet to be blacktopped.
